Cocina de madre

Branding and identity project for Cocina de Madre (Mama’s Kitchen), a new gastronomic concept promoted by the Echapresto Brothers (1 Michelin Star) which pays special tribute to all mother cooks, the essence of traditional cuisine and purveyors of a unique gastronomic heritage.

Market cuisine in which flavour authenticity and expression of respect for origin predominate. In a space immersed in natural light which reinterprets home-style cooking. Flavour, origin, and simplicity function as working premises, offering a nod to the promoters’ mother.

OBJECTIVES

  • Synthesising gastronomic simplicity and the values of proximity and closeness in few elements, but very much in line with these concepts.
  • Very pragmatically creating elements which can be customised and adapted to the dynamics of seasonal food.
  • Providing this new proposal with a visual narrative which links with Venta Moncalvillo, tying all previously unconsolidated brand architecture together.

PROPOSAL

Simplicity in the proposal, the use of natural materials and the application of the right elements to build a compelling proposal.

Identity is based on a typeface which synthesises the proposal by focusing on the differential term on which the whole narrative rests: mother, which is, in fact, precisely the name given internally to this dining room.

The engraving of a ladle depicts an old and ingenious utensil preserved by the Echapresto family, which doubles up as a weight for a weighing system.

This dual function, of weighing and serving hot “spoon” dishes, is evidence of how practical our mothers were.

There are few further embellishments – only the colour of the season to situate the diner in the specific menu they are to enjoy over those weeks.

The illustration style, simple but clear, adds to the visual richness of the universe.

The visual metaphor predominates over everything else: simplicity and clear, uncomplicated concepts.

Naturalness, closeness, authenticity… This is what our mothers and their kitchens are like.

GRAPHIC SOLUTION

Few, but convincing elements, which unequivocally convey the purity and honesty of a way of understanding cuisine.

A 19th century “Old Style” typeface, reminiscent of Renaissance handwritten forms of a less formal and friendlier character than Bodonian serifs, which exudes the elegance and contrast of a Victorian era, a commitment to the classic with great legibility and no gimmicks.

The chromatic range in which each season creates a palette which envelops the illustrations of the main ingredients nourished at that particular time.

PRODUCTION

All materials used are environmentally friendly and easy to produce – in fact, the menus are handcrafted natural wood, the cotton paper barely treated…

Everything comes together to bring out the purity of Cocina de Madre.

SOCIAL MEDIA

A heartfelt tribute to the cuisine which, generation after generation, our mothers have known how to interpret: pure, honest, true, with no frills.

Products with love. This is Cocina de Madre: authenticity with minimum intervention. A proposal which respects, acknowledges, and values our mothers’ gastronomic heritage.
